Going Beyond the Boots

Your Next Step team had a blast at the first Veterans Count and Easter Seals “Beyond the Boots” event this past Wednesday at the Manchester Country Club where we were honored to be a table sponsor. The highlight was the great fashion show featuring on-trend clothing and accessories from many local stores and boutiques modeled by an intrepid and fashion-forward team of veterans and spouses. Our objective assessment is the best models were Next Step patients, U.S. Marine veteran, Sean Kiernan, and his wife, Colleen, U.S. Army veteran, Dave Bronson, and his wife Cara, as well as our very own Samantha Dow and Shannon Krumlauf.   Our table was ably hosted by our fearless leader, Matt Albuquerque, with Andrea Deshaies, Vice-President, Chrystal Brusky, Operations Manager, staff members Susan Gelinas, Penny Plichta, and Samantha’s husband, Chris Dow.

This fun event benefited the serious work that Veterans Count does, providing much-needed support, services and financial assistance for veterans, service members, and their families. The numbers are impressive –as of March of this year Veterans Count has distributed nearly $3,000,000 in emergency financial assistance; they’ve prevented homelessness for over 1,000 at-risk families; Care Coordinators have intervened in 111 cases of significant suicide risk, and over 13,000 service referrals have been made. What is even more impressive is that behind every number is a veteran or family member who is taking one more step toward a healthier, happier life.

We’re already looking forward to next year!
