Matt Albuquerque participates in Science Café a The Riverwalk Café and Music Bar in Nashua

Science Café is a free, two-hour monthly gathering where scientists, industry and other experts come to share what they know, what they’ve learned and where they see things going.  It’s a chance to explore topics we should know more about with a beer in hand, and not only become better informed, but also better connected.  It’s a chance to ask questions of some really smart and interesting people.  It’s a chance to understand more.  Click here to read the full article posted in the Nashua Telegraph on Monday 10/2.

 Vets Receive Life-Changing Prosthetics

July 6, 2017 – Last week the VA held a press conference to unveil the new LUKE Arm which is manufactured by Mobius Bionics right here in Manchester, NH!  Next Step is proud to be a part of this ground breaking technology as one of the premier facilities chosen to provide the interface between the arm and the patient.  The links below are to news articles and videos about the arm and it’s unveiling.

Next Step Boot Camp 2017

Our 2-day summer boot camp this past August was a huge success!

Next Step hosted twelve high school and college students for our Summer Boot Camp which is an intensive 2-day program for students who are considering a career in the prosthetics profession.  This opportunity is designed to give these individuals a first-hand look at what the profession is all about and how they might plan a future in this exciting field.

Participants went through an application process and were selected based on their responses to the questionnaire.  Everyone had a blast and had an “eye opening” experience learning about the prosthetics industry, what patients deal with every day and how we work hard to provide the best care possible.  We had a few students who indicated that they were definitely going to move towards becoming prosthetists!

Here are a few photos from the 2 day event.

Dean Kamen’s new Luke arm a game changer

Inventor Dean Kamen demonstrates DEKA’s prosthetic arm at the company’s headquarters in Manchester’s Millyard in 2014. Mobius Bionics LLC, a new medical device company, has picked Universal Instruments Corp. of Binghamton, N.Y., to serve as the contract manufacturer for the Luke arm, the first prosthetic arm cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. (click to read the article)

Researchers at Delsys Inc., a wearable sensor company in Natick MA, are developing new myoelectric technology to improve prosthetic control and are looking for research volunteers with transradial (forearm) amputations to participate in a research study.  Initially, Next Step will be working with Delsys to help them find study subjects.  We hope to be able to schedule a full day here at Next Step to have the Delsys team do testing in our facility for clients who don’t want to drive to Natick but would still like to participate in the study.  Click on the document below to review all of the criteria for participation in the research study.  Please don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Serge Roy via email at or via telephone at (508) 545-8235 if you are interested.
